Hey guys! So the other day I was thinking about my blog, where I’d like to take it in the future and what new content to produce and I realized that this month I have been blogging for 6 months! Crazy! It might seem sort of weird to be acknowledging the 6 months of my blogging journey but one thing I can say for sure is that I have grown in ways I wouldn’t have if I didn’t have this blog. I developed new skills, met new people and been exposed to new opportunities. I think I touched on this before in one of my previous blogs but during the middle of this year I found myself in a really frustrating place. Life happens, there’s work, different responsibilities and life just seemed monotonous at the time. I really felt the need to do something creative, branch out and get out of my comfort zone. I came across blogging and I’m glad I did because I had an opportunity to create something of my own. I’ve also found blogging to be very therapeutic when I’ve had a stressful week it’s been so great to have a space of your own where you can talk about the things you love.

I’ve always been the type of person to reflect and look back on the journey I’ve had to get to where I am now and during a period of reflection I’ve had the opportunity to write down a few things I’ve learnt during my first 6 months of blogging. I hope these points will be relatable if you’re already a blogger and inspiring if you have not yet become one but wish to in the future!

Blogging Is A Lot Of Fun!

This should be one of the main reasons for blogging. Blog because you enjoy it and not because you’re seeking fame and recognition. Do it because you’d enjoy it whether you’re getting paid and even if you’re not. Blogging allows you to get creative and I’ve had so much fun creating content and putting it out there for people to enjoy. I’m always thinking about future post ideas, things to discuss, and ways to help other people. It’s been amazing to have this creative outlet to be able to share your thoughts and create content for people.

It Takes Time

When I started, I had very little experience with WordPress and setting up a blog has been time consuming but rewarding in that I have been able to learn a new skill such as build my very own website. The great thing about blogging is there is a lot of information online to help you along the way which makes it easier if you’re a beginner. One thing I needed to realize is that it will take quite some time to get where I want to be with my blog. It will be a gradual process and blogging is a craft and you need to work on your craft every day. I’ve been trying to improve my photos a great deal as well as trying to blog better content for readers. With blogging you never stop learning and there are always ways to get better at what you doing.

Hard Work Pays Off/ Don’t Quit

It takes a lot of time and persistence to be a successful blogger, but it’s completely doable. Many of us are used to seeing the glamorous side of blogging but once I got into it I realized there’s a lot of hard work and perseverance that goes into creating great content and becoming a successful blogger. Many people start blogging but never stick with it because of unrealistic expectations of what blogging is like. They never push on because it becomes too much “work”. Success does not come overnight. Keep at it! Stick with it! Don’t Quit

Don’t compare

It’s easy to compare yourself to someone who has been blogging for years and years but this is something I had to learn to keep out of my mind. Each person has their own unique voice and something different to bring to this world through their blog. I’ve looked at more experienced bloggers who do much better than me, have better photos, get more comments and have a zillion followers compared to me. But comparing yourself to others will only take away your confidence and shift your focus away from the uniqueness you are able bring to the blogging world. I took comfort in the fact that even well established bloggers didn’t have it all together when they started out. The world doesn’t need another copy. It just needs you to write your story down.

Learn From The Best

Instagram is a great tool for bloggers. I’ve come across some of my favourite men’s fashion bloggers on Instagram who are absolutely killing it in the blogging world. These guys have inspired me to become a blogger. I am actually thinking of doing a post on some of my favourite male bloggers so you can see who has inspired me to blog. I always watch what other male bloggers are doing and try to incorporate that into my style and what I’m doing. I still feel I am very far from where I want to be but I’m getting there slowly!

Your Blog Can Open Up Career Opportunities

Just establishing an active blog you puts you ahead of your peers. These days employers frequently check applicants social media in order to see the REAL you and see what type of person you are based on your social media presence. Whatever type of blog you have, you position yourself as a knowledgeable person in your field and dedicating your own time to build something that demonstrates your passion is impressive to employers. I can tell you that opportunities have presented themselves to me during these 6 months and these things wouldn’t have happened if I did not have a blog.

That It’s The Best Thing I’ve Ever Done

Not only has this blog enhanced my career, it has enriched my life and broadened my mind in ways I never thought possible. I honestly never thought I’d enjoy and love blogging this much and my advice to anyone still on the fence about blogging is to get on it! Get on it now! There’s never a time quite like the present. If you are like me and found things to be too monotonous then try blogging. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and there are so many unexpected benefits that come along with blogging that you never thought would happen.
